Digital X-Rays
Digital radiography is a form of x-ray imaging in which a digital sensors is used instead of traditional film.
One of the biggest advantages of digital x-rays is that it reduces our patient’s exposure to radiation—by as much as 80 percent. In addition, there is no chemical processing of the x-rays, eliminating the environmental impact associated with disposal of conventional film developers. Finally, digital x-rays are immediately available, eliminating the need to wait for them to be developed.
Intra-Oral Camera
With the intra-oral camera, we are able to take high-definition pictures of your teeth and show them to you as we see them. This helps us to explain what is going on with your teeth, as well as to have a record of any issues going on in your mouth.
The cavity causing pain when you eat sweets, the tartar and plaque growing on your teeth, swollen gums, and broken teeth and fillings can all be seen by you using the intra-oral camera. This miniature camera is designed into a device that looks like a slightly oversized pen and allows us to guide you on a tour of your mouth.
You are able to look at the computer monitor in our operatories and see for the first time what we see as dentists.
An intra-oral camera is an indispensable diagnostic and educational tool. The tiny video camera moves around inside your mouth and generates a tooth-by-tooth video exam of your teeth. The images can be stored, and later enlarged and printed. Once treatment options are discussed and agreed upon, intra-oral cameras can be used to effectively track treatment progress.

Comfort Dental of Lafayette is proud to say that two important things we do for our patients are identifying cavities and restoring teeth. Any spot of decay can threaten the integrity of an entire tooth. Removing tooth decay early is key to preventing an onset of future dental issues.
We are pleased to offer a revolutionary way to detect and find cavities. DIAGNOdent allows us an additional way of finding cavities and replace them with an innovative means of detecting cavities.
DIAGNodent technology uses a laser diode to inspect the patient’s teeth. It compares reflection wavelength against a healthy baseline wavelength to uncover tooth decay. The benchmark reading is taken by aiming the laser onto a healthy enamel tooth surface and then the laser is directed into all suspect areas.
Comfort Dental’s goal is to find cavities when they are small shallow and simpler fillings. This means the filling is more conservative removing less of your tooth structure, and providing an additional means of monitoring suspicious areas.
