Initial visit 2Dental Veneers Can Be Smile Magic

A veneer is a layer bonded to the front of a tooth. A great advantage is that little of your original tooth has to be removed or altered to have a veneer placed.

Do you have one of these six challenges with your smile?

  1. Slightly crooked teeth
  2. Chipped teeth
  3. Poorly shaped teeth
  4. Stained or discolored teeth
  5. Gaps between teeth
  6. Teeth that are different lengths

.
Made of porcelain or composite resin material, veneers can be like magic in correcting these common challenges to one’s smile and look remarkably like one’s natural teeth.

The procedure for getting dental veneers is pretty straightforward:

  • Composite resin veneers allow for the tooth preparation and the bonding to the tooth to occur in one visit.
  • Porcelain veneers have a two step process in which the tooth preparation and bonding are two visits. Our dental lab creates the veneer based on the dental impressions provided Dr. Brucken or Dr. Stubbs. Our patients return to have the veneer placed in about a week or two.

Here is an example of the dramatic difference veneers can make:

Comfort Dental wants to ensure your new smile is successful. With this in mind, dental veneers are not appropriate for everyone or every tooth. Case selection is an extremely important factor in veneer success.

Some of the situations where veneers may be less likely to achieve success:

  • Unhealthy teeth. Dental decay and active gum disease must be treated prior to fabricating and bonding dental veneers.
  • Weakened teeth. If a significant amount of tooth structure is missing or has been replaced by a large filling the teeth will not be strong enough to function with a dental veneer.
  • Teeth with an inadequate amount of enamel present. Dental veneers are more successfully bonded onto tooth enamel.
  • People who habitually clench or grind on their teeth. Habitual clenching and grinding of the teeth can easily chip or break dental veneers. Wearing a dental nightguard may be a solution.
  • Persons without a stable bite.
  • Severely mal-positioned teeth or misaligned teeth. Orthodontic treatment may be required to achieve the desired result.

What to Expect with Dental Veneers
Dental veneers can last indefinitely, depending on how well they are taken care of by the patient. Because porcelain veneers are stronger than composite resin, they are also more resistant to stains and chipping. Even so, you must maintain regular dental cleaning at home, and visit us for routine cleanings and exams. This is to ensure that your new cosmetic veneers will continue to look as good as new.

Another important point is that oral habits that damage natural teeth such as nail biting and chewing on hard objects can also damage your new dental veneers. Once veneers are applied, just treat them like natural teeth. They look great and are durable.

Patients at Comfort Dental benefit from the straight-forward, honest approach that both Dr. Randall Brucken and Dr. Lawrence Stubbs take as they help their patients create and maintain healthy smiles for a lifetime. Our goal is that you have a great dental experience and incredible care.
